Types of Anti-Aging Beauty Products Part 2

Anti-Aging Serums

Anti-aging serums are concentrated treatments that are dispensed with a pump or dropper. These light, normally clear liquids are non-oily and sink right into the skin without leaving a greasy residue, which makes them especially useful for aging skin that is oily or acne-prone. Those with normal or dry skins can apply a moisturizer afterward. Serums can be used at night or during the day after cleansing and under makeup.

Anti-Aging Scrubs

Like anti-aging cleansers, anti-aging scrubs work to slough off dead skin to reveal new skin underneath. Scrubs are more aggressive than daily cleansers, so they should not be used every day. Some facial scrubs contain the same synthetic microbeads as cleansers, while others include natural ingredients like sugar, sea salt, or grain meal. Earlier scrub formulas were made from ground shells and fruit kernels; however, these ingredients are now thought to abrade the skin, causing microdamage, and are best avoided. Scrubs may also contain AHAs and BHAs to enhance the exfoliating effects. Use a scrub two to three times a week in place of a cleanser (or according to the directions), but be sure to remove makeup first.

Anti- Aging Masks

Masks are left on the skin for a short period of time, usually five to thirty minutes. While they may have more of a chance to deliver anti-aging ingredients than a cleanser or scrub, they typically cannot achieve long-lasting results and are best used as a temporary boost. Many anti-aging masks contain short-term firming and pore-tightening ingredients that will give the skin a more youthful appearance before an important event. Some anti-aging masks will also contain stimulants to increase blood flow to the face, thereby imparting a rosy glow. Follow the product directions for application instructions and frequency of use.

Anti-Aging Makeup

Anti-aging makeup is a great way to simplify morning a beauty routine. It used to be that women cleansed their faces and then applied moisturizer, then sunscreen, and then makeup. Now it is possible to find these three items combined into one anti-aging foundation product, sometimes with the additional benefits of specific anti-aging treatment ingredients.
